December moved to the city to support her family but struggled to keep her faith while working on the Sabbath. A new center in the city promised to help young people like her find work without compromising their beliefs.
“I have an idea,” said one of the missionaries. “I saw a similar rash when I was a small girl in my village. We boiled guava leaves in water, and then bathed our hands and feet in the water. Let’s try it here.”
Back inside the hut, Armi and his friend carefully cleaned the wound. Beads of sweat broke out on their faces. They were worried about making the wound worse.
Soon after that unusual advice, Irshad had a dream in which someone delivered the same message to him: “Quit being a soldier to serve God better.”
In the busy city of Singapore, Seventh-day Adventists in partnership with Adventist Active Centers are bringing hope to lonely seniors. Amy, a 72-year-old, found new friends and a growing faith through the care group, and now her life is changing.
But that wasn’t all that Hannah found annoying. The twins also liked to go into her bedroom and play with her toys. She was alarmed one day when they took her teddy bear and began to play-fight with it.
But then he saw a town on Sentani Lake without any Adventist church and without any Adventists. His small boat passed the town of Yoboi as he sailed to another town with church members.
“It’s been an exciting and fulfilling journey, following God wherever He leads and witnessing His hand in every step,” says Karen.
Not everyone supported Amelia’s mission. The local village leader made it clear that he didn’t want her around. He even demanded that the locals stay away from her.
The Institute of World Mission provides appropriate cross-cultural training for all missionaries. The Institute cooperates with a tentmaker program and further serves the church with consulting, training and strategic planning for the worldwide mission of the church.
The needs and challenges of the worldwide Adventist Church are great and varied. The need is for youth, and the young at heart, to respond to the call to share the good news of the gospel with those who need to hear it.
More than half the world's population will live in urban areas today. As the world's urban landscape changes, so will our approach to mission. The Adventist Church is committed to finding the best way to tell the world about Jesus.
